N. N is a Japanese Kana which can be written in Hiragana and Katakana.

Hiragana: ん This should be easy to remember as it is roughly the same shape as an N.

Katakana: ン The can be rememberes as, one line is oN the other.

Shi is a Japanese Kana that can be written in Hiragana or Katakana

Hiragana – し
Katakana – シ

With chonchons it is pronounced ‘Ji’. This is one of those things you just have to remember.
