E is a Japanese Kana. It can be represented in Hiragana or Katakana.
Hiragana - え- A good way to remember this is Z with Extra. (Looks like a Z with an extra little bit on top)
Katakana - エ - Basically anything that will remind you the E sound looks like an I. Think of New Zealanders maybe, or IE (Internet explorer). Etc.
E is also a word meaning painting (noun). This can be written with Hiragana, or as a Kanji.
