Japanese Swear Words
July 18th 2008 09:49
That’s right kiddies, it’s the one you’ve all been waiting for!
Let me preface this by saying Japanese swearing doesn’t really FUNCTION like Western swearing does. You can get away with saying words that may be on this list, in context, and it you might as well be asking if somebody has any pikelets for the reaction you get. The moment you point to someone and say ‘you’ though, they’ll look at you like you called them a ‘faggot bastard mother-fucker’.
Personal Name Calling.
ばか Baka is one of those that is extremely rude. It means fool or idiot, but depending on how it’s said, can mean anything from ‘nitwit’ to ‘bastard’, or worse.
へんたい Hentai. This means pervert. Some of you will probably want to tell me that it means pornographic cartoons. You’re half right – Japanese cartoon types are named after their intended audiences – so Jiggly Jelly Wrestle babes Cartoons are made for perverts.
とうさくしゃ Tousakusha. Pervert.
あほ Aho. Stupid.
うすのろ Usunoro. Idiot.
おたんこなす Otankonasu. Idiot.
おろか[/hmtl] Oruka. Stupid. 愚, meaning idiotic/foolish.
こけざる Kokezru. Foolish monkey.
ばかづら Bakazura. Related to Baka above, this means ‘Stupid Face’. It can mea an expression, and I belive can also mean a stupid face in general.
ふぬけ Fumeke. Foolish, or cowardly.
いくじなし Cowardly – no self respect/ backbone.
ちかん Pervert, molester. I’ve seen this term used to describe the men who grope women on trains, which is not uncommon.
Curses (for when you hit your thumb and so on)
くそ Kuso! Shit!
Other Fairly offensive stuff.
くさい ~Kusai. Kusai literally means stinks. To say that something is really ‘something’ you can say it reeks of it. Despite what I said in the opening passage, these phrases tend to be fairly repugnant, and should honestly never be used. Example:
レズくさい Rezu Kusai – To reek of Lesbianism. This can be done with most descriptive words (homo, woman) and it best avoided because it reeks of prejudice.
くたばっちまえ Kudabacchimae. Essentially, fuck off.
うんこ Unko. Shit, Bullshit.
Sexual Slang.
In Western Culture, almost all swearing worth swearing about is sexual. In Japan, while it’s not such a case that sexual words are bad, there’s a time and a place to talk about it, which still gives these words a lot of power.
ちんちん Chinchin. Penis.
へのこ Henoko. Balls.
はりがた Harigata (alt. Harikata). This can mean Dildo. Literally it means ‘penis shaped’.
いんぐ Ingu. Dildo.
まんこ Manko – Vagina/Screw
あいえき Aieki. Sexual fluids.
えいち Eichi. As you saw above the word Hentai has a lot of offensive meanings. Japanese like to shorten and abbreviate words, so they take the H from Hentai and use it quite a bit. Alone, it indicates something sexual, but with more dirty connotations. えいちを する (eichi o suru) I have heard translated as the verb ‘to fuck’.
More Complex Swearing
あなた の ちんちん が ない Anata no chinchin ga nai. You Have no penis.
This should be enough for now but we can get back to it later
